The Birth of the SHE Clothing Brand

Patricia Quaye, founder of the SHE 4 Change Foundation and She Clothing, has long been passionate about creating opportunities for underserved communities in Ghana. Growing up in Rural Ghana, Patricia witnessed the challenges faced by skilled artisans (seamstresses) whose immense talent was overshadowed by systemic barriers such as poor market access, inadequate tools, and unfair compensation.

The challenges worsened during the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving many seamstresses in Ghana especially those in rural areas without a source of income. Inspired by her mother’s efforts to help local seamstresses create and sell face masks during the pandemic, Patricia began envisioning a solution. Through her research and work at the University of California Berkeley, Patricia developed the SHE 4 Change Creative Hub under the SHE 4 Change Foundation, providing artisans with access to modern tools, market access, sustainable income, and opportunities for growth.

She Clothing was born out of this initiative as a brand that showcases the craftsmanship of these talented women.
